After much consideration and at a point in my life where I have the time and financial resources, I decided to enroll in the Bachelor of Science in IT Management program at WGU and filled out the application. WGU was offering a $65 discount for applying which made it free. Shortly after submitting my application, I was assigned an enrollment counselor, who provided inestimable amounts of help.
I was advised by her that I would need to take some pre-requisite courses before being admitted. She recommended that I use StraighterLine. I signed up with StraighterLine and picked out some equivalency courses that matched my desired degree. WGU also offered a StraighterLine discount for new students, which I appreciated.
I ended up taking seven courses through StraighterLine, all of which transferred over to WGU. These classes were:
These classes accounted for 22 credits. I was nearing the end of my StraighterLine subscription and didn’t want to pay for another month so I ended it there and submitted those classes for transfer to WGU.
Once all the transcripts transfered over, I was provisionally admitted to WGU. I had to complete some additional paperwork, including a FAFSA application and orientation. I completed the FAFSA application and ended it with declining a loan since I knew I was going to self-pay anyway.
I went ahead and filled out some applications for scholarships, about 5 in all. I received an email a couple days before starting saying that I wasn’t awarded a single one but the email didn’t give a reason. On one application, I put down that I liked online learning cause I could take tests in my pajamas so I have wondered if maybe that’s why. No biggie.
Orientation was a breeze and just required answering some self-awareness and mental discipline questions. A few days after that was completed, I logged into the student portal and saw that I was cleared to start on April 1, 2019.
I received a farewell phone call from my enrollment counselor and soon was assigned a Program Mentor. We had an intro call on March 22 where we discussed my goals for the program and to coordinate a weekly call schedule so we could discuss my progress.
On March 29, I had a call with my Program Mentor to finalize my first term and waited for April 1 so I could start.
Here we go …
