This class wasn’t too bad due to my background in IT. The learning material is horrible and outdated. I got dinged on a quiz when the question asked “how do you see the mac address in windows?” I put “ipconfig /all” but the answer they wanted was “ipconfig/all” (no space). Just weird stuff like that.

I took the PA pretty much blind after piddling around in the learning material for a bit. I passed but not by much. I watched a couple of YouTube videos but those didn’t help a whole lot so I decided to mainly study the coaching report and to take the end-of-chapter exams in the learning material. After a few hours, I took the PA again (after getting my PM to approve it), scored exemplary, and scheduled the OA. The OA aligned with the PA pretty well, IMHO.

It is very important to commit the OSI model to memory and understand what each layer does and why. OSI questions made up the bulk of the questions on my exam. It’s also a good idea to learn what the CIA triad is and what constitutes AAA.

Takeaway

  • Memorize the OSI model (Please Do Not Touch Steve’s Pet Alligator)
  • Learn the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability)
  • Learn AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting)
