This is an easy class. It consisted of two performance assessments. The first task included a cover letter for a job, a business to business email invite, and a short essay on cultural sensitivity. The second task included a recorded powerpoint presentation and an executive summary.

For the cover letter, I just wrote it like I was applying for my own job. I used a couple of previous positions to tout my experience. Simple stuff. The rubric gives specifics on what needs to be included and there’s a template provided for reference.

For the business to business email invite, I created a meeting with several references to “Office Space” and organized it as an agenda. For example, the meeting was hosted by division VP Bill Lumbergh and one of the presentations was by Tom Smykowski on his new line of roll out “Jump to Conclusions” mats. The evaluator didn’t make any comment on that so I’m not sure they got the context but I got a good laugh out of it.

The essay portion was a short 1-2 page document on understanding cultural sensitivity in the arena of international business. I used the WGU library to find a few sources and plucked out relevant material from them.

The second task required recorded powerpoint presentation about creating a business report and an executive summary. I downloaded a template from Microsoft, then consulted the course learning material to get the steps necessary for writing a report and created my presentation from that. For recording, I used the free version of software call Screencast-o-matic which allowed a picture in picture view of me narrating the powerpoint, a rubric essential.

For the executive summary, I just transcribed the presenter notes I used for the presentation, nearly word for word. It ended up being a page and a half which fit the rubric requirement for 1-2 page length.

I experienced a weird glitch with the WGU interface. I never got a notification that my second task was graded and passed. It was only after I logged into the interface that I saw it was done. The WGU interface never updated to show the class as complete and it showed I still had 3 outstanding credits. I opened a ticket with IT but as of this writing, I have not heard anything yet.

The completion of this course leaves me with only the capstone to finish and six weeks to do it.

Takeaway

Super simple course. Just follow the rubric. Nothing special.
